Eye on the Opposition vs. Jacksonville Armada
FC Edmonton are back under the lights of Clarke Stadium this Friday, October 6 when the club entertains Jacksonville Armada FC at 7:00PM MT. A lot has gone on since the Florida side last traveled to Edmonton, so here’s three things on the Armada to get you caught up before the Friday evening’s fixture:
Hello again, old friend
Eddies fans will get a glimpse of the Armada at Clarke for the first time since early in the NASL Spring Season – an April 8 match ending in a 1-0 victory for the visitors. It was only the second match of the year and the second of two-straight losses for the Eddies against Jacksonville to open the 2017 campaign. All three previous scorelines have tipped in Jacksonville’s favour one-nil, with the final meetup between the two clubs scheduled soon after Friday’s fixture on Wednesday, Oct. 18 at Hodges Stadium on beIN SPORTS.
Mark your man
The Armada have been one of the NASL’s best on set pieces. Surprisingly, they’re the only club in the league to score more often from set pieces than from open play in the 2017 combined seasons – 15 from set pieces and 14 from open play. The Eddies know they’ll have to find and mark their man on dead-ball opportunities for the visitors after the lone goal last time out against the San Francisco Deltas came off a corner in the second half.
Points for the Prize
Discussion around the league looking towards the Championship, the NASL’s four-team postseason tournament, is well underway with only six matches left on the calendar for 2017. Both the Armada and Eddies are entering crunch time as the two clubs currently sit on the outside looking in to the playoff picture, with three highly-coveted points and the winning club inching closer to the final four being the prizes for a victory on Friday.
After losing out twice to the Armada to begin the season, the Eddies look to return the favour with two of the club’s next three matches against Jacksonville.
