FC Edmonton announced the signing of centre-forward Mamadi Camara today.
Camara played ten times for HFX Wanderers in 2021 after signing for the club as a mid-season acquisition in September. The 26-year-old centre-forward scored his first CPL goal in a 2-2 draw with York United, helping bolster the Wanderers’ attack during their playoff push.
The Montreal-born striker is a former Simon Fraser University player, where he was coached by FC Edmonton Head Coach Alan Koch, and he scored 29 goals in 69 appearances. He was also named the GNAC first team all-star in each of his 4 seasons (2015-2018) before being named GNAC player of the year in his final year. In 2019, Camara was selected 46th overall by San Jose Earthquakes in the MLS draft before spending the abbreviated 2020 season at USL club Colorado Switchbacks.
“Mamadi is an intelligent, hard-working and versatile player,” said Eddies Head Coach Alan Koch. “We look forward to integrating him into our system of play and allowing him to flourish in this environment. The opportunity is there for Mamadi to show that he can be an impactful player in the league. Having coached him before I know that the potential to break through is there, now it is up to us together to kick on to higher levels.”
FC Edmonton will kick the season off at home on Sunday April 10 against Valour FC at 2pm MT at Clarke Stadium.
