Edmonton, AB (January 20, 2022) – FC Edmonton selected forward Kairo Coore from Cape Breton University (second overall) and Parisian midfielder Quentin Paumier from the University of Montréal in Thursday’s 2022 CPL-U SPORTS Draft.

A dynamic striker, Coore is a second-year student from Whitby, Ontario. The 20-year-old is a product of Erin Mills Soccer Club in Mississauga and prior to joining the Capers played two seasons in Division 2 competition with the NCAA’s Saginaw Valley State Cardinal of Michigan.

FC Edmonton’s second pick, Quentin Paumier is from Marseilles, France where he developed at Olympique Marseille and is in his third year studying Economic Sciences. The University of Montréal Carabins, Captain scored a big 90th minute goal to help lead his side to the 2021 U SPORTS National Championship.

The two draft picks will be invited to FC Edmonton pre-season training with the hopes of securing a 2022 U SPORTS Development Contract for the upcoming season, which would allow them as student-athletes with one to four years of U SPORTS eligibility remaining to sign with a CPL club while preserving their eligibility before returning to U SPORTS competition.

Since 2018, the Canadian Premier League has held a draft for eligible U SPORTS men’s soccer players who have registered and declared themselves available to be selected through the League’s annual draft, with 165 athletes declaring for this year’s draft.
