FC Edmonton signs Gorskie for 2021 season

EDMONTON, AB – FC Edmonton has signed centre back Hunter Gorskie to a contract for the 2021 season, the club announced today.

Gorskie played last season for San Antonio FC in the United Soccer League (USL) Championship making 13 appearances and scoring one goal.

After going undrafted in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft, Gorskie went to trial with San Jose Earthquakes and made two Reserve League appearances for the club before signing his first professional contract with the North American Soccer League’s (NASL) New York Cosmos in April of 2013. He made eight appearances for that club during the 2013 NASL season that culminated in the team defeating the Atlanta Silverbacks 1-0 to claim the NASL Soccer Bowl title.

Gorskie started the final three games of the Cosmos season, including the team’s NASL Championship semi-final against the San Antonio Scorpions as a central defender. He was named the team captain for the final regular season match of the year on November 1, 2014, and finished that season with seven starts in 13 appearances recording one assist.

The 5’10” 170-pound defenseman was born and raised in Marlboro Township, New Jersey. Following high school, he played club soccer for the Player Development Academy of New Jersey before committing to Stanford University. In 2009, he started all 20 games for the Stanford Cardinal and helped them to nine clean sheets, including three in the Pac-10 tournament, and two in the NCAA Tournament.

In 2010, Gorskie was named Pac-12 All-Academic second team. In his final season at Stanford, The 29 year-old started in all 18 games and was named second team All-Pac-12 and Pac-12 All-Academic first team. During his time in college, Gorskie also played in the Premier Development League for Central Jersey Spartans, Chicago Fire Premier, and New Jersey Rangers.

Koch continued, “He is also excellent at leading and communicating with the players around him. His diverse and significant experience will set him up for success in our new and robust environment. I look forward to seeing Hunter play in the Eddies blue soon!”
