RELEASE | FC Edmonton and Adam Straith part ways

EDMONTON, AB. — FC Edmonton can confirm that the club and Canadian international Adam Straith are parting ways after terms for an extension to keep the Victoria, B.C. product with the Eddies could not be agreed upon ahead of the 2017 North American Soccer League (NASL) Fall Season.

The defender/midfielder signed with FC Edmonton midway through pre-season on February 27 from Norwegian 1. Division side Fredrikstad FK on a Spring Season contract.

“I look for humbleness in players and Adam had that,” FC Edmonton head coach Colin Miller said. “Adam made a good impression on everyone at the club and it’s unfortunate to see him move on, but we wish nothing but the best of luck.

“Originally it was a short-term situation for us and we would’ve liked to work something out long term, but unfortunately that wasn’t the case. It’s a loss to us but if we can’t come to an agreement, it’s just the nature of the sport.”

Straith’s time in Edmonton included 12 appearances in NASL and Canadian Championsip competition at both centre-back and central defensive midfielder, scoring his first goal as an Eddie on May 27 in a 2-1 win over the Indy Eleven.

The 26-year-old started for the Canadian Men’s National Team against Scotland in a 1-1 draw on March 22 and played 15 minutes on June 13 in a 2-1 win over Curaçao during his time as an Eddie, extending his international cap total to 43 matches. Straith was called back to the National Team camp in late June by manager Octavio Zambrano for the CONCACAF Gold Cup, with Canada bowing out in the quarter-final stage with a 2-1 loss to Jamaica on July 20.

FC Edmonton resume play on Sunday, July 30 at 2:00 PM MT when the Eddies kick off the NASL Fall Season at Clarke Stadium. Tickets are available at tickets.fcedmonton.com.
