FC Edmonton to compete in annual Canada Soccer U-15 Showcase

Canada Soccer will bring more than 90 young players from across the country to take part in the third annual Canada Soccer U-15 Showcase from 15-19 May in Toronto, Ontario. The 10-match, round-robin 2017 showcase will feature a Canadian select squad and the academy/residency squads from Vancouver Whitecaps FC, FC Edmonton, Toronto FC, and Impact Montréal FC.

FC Edmonton’s roster will be published upon release from Canada Soccer later this evening.

As part of Canada Soccer’s Men’s EXCEL Program, the 2017 showcase provides Canada Soccer with an early opportunity for both education to young players as well as scouting by national, provincial/territorial, and professional coaches.

“We are starting a new two-year cycle with this group towards the next CONCACAF and FIFA competitions in 2019,” said Octavio Zambrano, Head Coach of Canada Soccer’s Men’s National Team Program. “It’s a great responsibility as we need to affect these young players positively as they develop as part of our pipeline to the Men’s National Team.”

Players at the 2017 Canada Soccer U-15 Showcase are all born 2002 or later, making them eligible in FIFA/CONCACAF competitions at the U-17 level in 2019, the U-20 level until 2021, and the Olympics/U-23 level until 2024.

The Canada Soccer U-15 Showcase is organised in co-operation with technical directors from provincial and territorial associations as well as the professional academies. The Canadian select team features players not currently attached to one of the four academy/residency squads, thus ensuring that players from across the country have an opportunity to showcase their talents at a young age.

Canada Soccer’s Men’s EXCEL Program channels our nation’s exceptional players into the best soccer environments. The Canada Soccer Pathway works in collaboration with our provincial and territory partners as well as the professional clubs and academies. For Canada’s elite players, the program emphasizes player development on the pathway to representing Canada’s Men’s National Team in international soccer.
